What kind of support would help?

This guide links to organizations. It does not host groups, match you with a clinician, or assess your mental health.

An illustrated space for shared learning. This is artwork, not a photograph of a listed program.

Find professional connection

These are starting points by profession, not rankings or a complete list of groups. Check current membership requirements, fees, meeting format and registration before making plans.

MFTs, associates and trainees

CAMFT chapters

CAMFT describes local chapters as places for professional development, networking and support. Offerings differ by chapter; use the association's chapter information to find the local organization.

LPCCs, APCCs and counseling students

CALPCC member programs

CALPCC lists networking and consultation benefits, including peer consultation groups for APCC members. It explicitly says these groups are additional to clinical supervision and do not count toward licensure.

NASW California events

The chapter's calendar lists regional meetings and professional events. Open the current listing for the audience, date, cost and registration status; an archived event is not an available meeting.

Keep peer consultation and licensure supervision distinct

A peer group can offer professional company and discussion. Do not assume that attending one earns supervised-experience credit. CALPCC makes this distinction explicit for its APCC groups.

For AMFT, ASW and APCC pathways, the BBS publishes separate supervisor requirements and forms. Start with your registration category and the requirements for your supervisory relationship.

Use the site's guide to finding a clinical supervisor to prepare your questions. Psychology trainees should follow their separate psychologist licensure pathway.

CPA CARE

The California Psychological Association's Colleague Awareness Resources and Education program provides wellness education, resources and referral information. Read the program's current page for its scope and access.

CAMFT self-care resources

A collection of readings about self-care, burnout and support for BIPOC therapists. Some links lead to third-party material; consider each item's date and source.

These pages offer professional resources and education. A reading list or association program does not establish a treatment relationship.

Find care for yourself

If you want your own health care professional, SAMHSA offers a care-finding guide organized by insurance situation, including options for people without insurance. It is a general public resource, not a therapist-only referral service.

SAMHSA: find a professional or program →

When contacting a potential provider, ask about availability, cost, relevant experience and how care would fit around your work. You can ask how they handle overlapping professional relationships before deciding whether to proceed.

Questions to ask before joining a group

  • Who is the group for, and is membership required?
  • Is this peer consultation, licensure supervision, education or personal support?
  • Who facilitates it, what does it cost, and is registration currently open?
  • What are the expectations about attendance, privacy and discussing clinical work?

Ask about the group's rules before sharing sensitive material. Do not send client information through this site's contact form.

Sources and upkeep

Public source pages read: . These descriptions were checked against the linked pages. They have not been reviewed by a contracted licensed professional.

Review scheduled: . After that date, treat this collection as awaiting review until a newer source-read date appears. Always confirm access and availability with the organization.

How this collection is maintained

Each linked organization owns its program information. Therapist Support maintains these summaries and reviews them quarterly, or sooner when a change is reported. Estimated maintenance: four hours a year.

A missed review date leaves this guide visible with its dated notice. If a route can no longer be substantiated on the organization's public pages, remove its program description and direct link at the next editorial review. Automated checks do not advance the source-read date.

These are editorial links, not paid placements. No individual contact details or meeting roster are maintained here.

Source notes

Use the citations and any dated evidence records to check the claims relevant to your task. This label is not a verification status.

You should not have to work this part out on your own.

Once a month: free tools and apps worth having, better ways to run the admin side of a practice, what other California therapists are actually doing, and anything new here that might save you an afternoon.
