What does supervision cost between here and 3,000 hours?

The Board sets the units: one a week, two in any week with more than ten direct hours, a unit being an hour of individual or two of group. Enter your week, what you have banked, your mix and your rates; the page counts the weeks left, the supervision hours they require, and what that costs you after the employer’s share.

Your week and your rates

The Board fixes the units. You fix the schedule, the mix and the price.

Credited hours are what you log in a week, supervision included, up to the 40 the Board credits. Direct hours are face-to-face psychotherapy in that week; more than ten and the week needs two units. Banked figures come from your Experience Verification forms. The group share is the part of each week’s units you take as group supervision (two hours per unit). Rates are what you or your employer pay per hour; the employer share is what they cover. The LMFT rules are applied here; the ASW and APCC pages carry their own.

The rules, as the handbook states them

Five lines from the Board’s LMFT handbook.

13,000 hours over at least 104 supervised weeks.

Every week claimed must contain at least one unit of supervision. A unit is one hour of individual or triadic supervision, or two hours of group supervision.

2Two units in any week with more than ten hours of face-to-face psychotherapy.

The associate ratio, per setting. (Trainees average one unit per five direct hours instead.)

3No more than six hours of supervision credited in a single week; no more than 40 hours of experience in all.

Supervision counts toward the 40, as non-clinical experience.

452 of the weeks must contain one hour of individual or triadic supervision.

Group-only weeks count toward 104, not toward these 52.

51,750 direct clinical hours minimum.

The page projects your direct total from the weekly figure and says if the schedule falls short.

How it computes

Units, then weeks, then hours, then dollars.

01Units from direct hours.

More than ten direct hours in the week means two units; otherwise one. Your group share splits the units: an individual unit is one hour, a group unit two. Hours above six a week are worked but not credited, and the page says so.

02Weeks from what is left.

3,000 minus banked hours, divided by credited hours a week, rounded up; or 104 minus banked weeks, whichever is larger. When the second is larger the floor binds and working more hours a week does not shorten the wait.

03Hours and dollars.

Weeks × supervision hours a week, split by mix, priced at your two rates, reduced by the employer’s share. Per month divides by 4.33 weeks; per banked hour divides by the hours left.

04Two checks the Board makes that this schedule might fail.

Projected direct hours against the 1,750 minimum, and weeks containing an individual or triadic hour against the 52 required. A schedule that is all group supervision banks weeks toward 104 and none toward 52.

Rates, employer share, mix and schedule are the reader’s. The page applies the LMFT rules; the ASW and APCC hour rules differ and have their own pages. AB 1598 (Chapter 528) moves the hours window and the registration's life to seven years from 1 January 2027; the tracker page quotes it.
